In the United Methodist Church, Confirmation is the time when a youth takes the faith that a parent or guardian has chosen for them at infancy or childhood, and affirms it as their own.
Perhaps this didn’t happen for some youth, therefore, this is an opportunity for youth to claim faith in Christ as their own. Confirmation is open to all youth who are in 8th grade through High School.
At First UMC the Confirmation program begins in September and goes through April.
After learning about the church, the scriptures, and different ways to apply faith to their lives, youth have a chance to choose to publicly affirm their own faith in Christ. This public affirmation is what we call Confirmation. It is also the formal time when the youth officially joins the church.
