Pastor tim's Letter

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ!

Fall is the time of year when we begin to plan for the ministry and financial needs of First UMC for 2020. This year I want to share with you my deep gratitude for your commitment to the ministry of Indianola First UMC through your financial support this year! Without your giving we could not do the work that God calls all of us to do here in Indianola.

This year we are not having a “Stewardship Campaign.” Instead we are having a “Gratitude Campaign.” We are calling it a Gratitude Campaign because we believe that the most important reason we give to God through the church is out of our gratitude for God’s blessings in our lives, for the work of God’s church and all the church means to each of us.

During this campaign you will be hearing from members of the congregation about why they are

grateful to be a part of First UMC. I know I am grateful for the love, support and prayers this congregation has given my wife Michelle and I in our first two years of ministry among you. We feel truly grateful and blessed to be a part of this vibrant, hardworking, and caring congregation!

This week you received news from our Finance Committee chair that this year we are coming up short in our estimates of income for the current budget year. As the finances of our church are evolving, to

receive enough funding for the 2020 budget to be at the same level as 2019, we need to ask that you

prayerfully consider increasing your commitment for the coming year so that we can gratefully maintain the vital programs and ministries of our church. The good news is that we can maintain our current budget, if you and the giving members of our congregation would simply commit an additional $1 per day for the 2020 budget year.

Just think of it, for about the cost of a Big Mac Meal ($7.14) each week, we can maintain the

ministry and mission of our church to the Indianola community!! And of course, if you are able to do more than the amount of the Big Mac meal each week, you will enhance the growth of the ministry of First UMC. I know without a doubt the ministry we do is worth that additional dollar a day or more for Christian education, mission, ministry, worship and all God calls us to do together. Let’s all count our blessings as God

empowers us to give with gratitude for the ministry of our church.

In Gratitude,

Pastor Tim Bonney
